A Few Thoughts on Boxing

First and foremost, I want to clarify that I am not a fighter. While I have some limited experience in martial arts, it's minimal at best. So, please remember that these are merely my opinions.

I recently watched the thrilling match between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, and it was absolutely captivating.

It's always intrigued me that people can earn a living by fighting one another. I think this particular fight helped me grasp this concept more fully. These women had nothing to prove; they simply pursued something they love and excel at, while being paid for it. I also sensed that it must feel empowering to channel energy in a controlled environment.

Given the current political and economic climate, I often find myself in our office gym, donning boxing gloves even for just a minute to release some pent-up energy. So I can appreciate why these women do what they do.

These women are incredibly powerful. They have fought hard to reach their positions and have displayed remarkable courage and strength in a male-dominated arena. The fight itself was filled with passion and intensity.

The human experience is peculiar in that we derive joy from inflicting pain on others, even more so when both participants consent to it. I suppose this is the essence of fighting.

Now, let's talk about Mike and Jake.

In the end, Jake Paul is a genius because, regardless of the outcome, he emerges victorious. He can now claim that he faced Mike Tyson in the ring. Even if he had lost, he would still have the distinction of having shared the ring with a legend. This is why Jake Paul is a millionaire.

Mike Tyson is a legend. At 58 years old, going eight rounds is nothing to be ashamed of.

There has been speculation that the fight wasn't genuine. While I can't speak to that, I can say that whether real or not, both fighters exhibited honour and grace. They united people and created a space for the audience to witness the previous fight [Taylor and Serrano] especially during a time when women's sports are often overlooked and under appreciated.

Tonight was a delightful experience. Watching the fights evoked nostalgia, a sense of unity, and a feeling of home.

What a remarkable time to be alive!
